About Word Shift
Word Shift displays a five-by-five grid in which each row is a five-letter word whose letters have been rotated out of place. Tapping a row moves its letters one step to the right, and the last letter wraps around to the front. Each row works on its own, so you can solve them in any order. The puzzle is finished when all five rows spell real words.
Tips and strategy
- Look at each row separately. Shifting one row never changes the others, so you can solve them one at a time.
- Read the row as a loop. Imagine the letters in a circle and look for the place where a word could start.
- Spot common letter pairs, such as CH, TH, ST or QU, and try to put them next to each other in the right order.
- Remember that a tap moves letters to the right. If you overshoot the word you wanted, just keep tapping and the row will come around again.
- Use the other rows as a warm-up. Solving the easiest row first gives you a feel for how the shifting works before you tackle harder ones.
What it exercises
Word Shift trains word recognition from scrambled letters and patience in working through a short, repeatable process. Reading a ring of letters until a word appears exercises vocabulary, spelling patterns and mental flexibility, since the same letters have to be seen from different starting points.
Frequently asked questions
- How does Word Shift work?
- Tap a row to move all its letters one position to the right, with the last letter wrapping to the front. Keep tapping each row until it spells a word. Solve all five rows to win.
- Do the rows affect each other?
- No. Each row is shifted independently, so changing one row never touches the others. That makes it easy to solve rows one by one without worrying about undoing earlier work.
- How many taps can a row need?
- A five-letter row returns to its original position after five taps, so a row needs at most four taps to reach any arrangement. If you pass the right word, keep tapping to come back around.

Anagrid
Rearrange a scrambled 4x4 letter grid so every row and column spells a word. Every row and column is a real word when solved, so swapping letters into place is really solving several overlapping word puzzles at once.
Word Ladder
Change one letter at a time to transform a start word into an end word. Each step must be a real, valid word — the fun is finding the shortest chain of one-letter swaps that bridges two very different words.
Vowel Stripper
Guess a famous phrase or proverb shown with every vowel removed. With every A, E, I, O and U stripped out, the challenge is recognizing a familiar phrase from its consonant skeleton alone.
