About Missing Symbol
Missing Symbol is a quick visual memory challenge. Eight different shapes appear on screen for a few seconds, and then they vanish and come back shuffled with one of them removed. Your task is to work out which shape is gone and pick it from a row of options. It is over in moments, yet it demands real concentration, and it shows how much you can hold in mind when you only get one short look.
Tips and strategy
- Do not memorise positions. The seven remaining shapes return in a different arrangement, so remember which shapes you saw, not where they sat.
- Give each shape a name in your head, like circle, star or crescent. Naming makes a set of eight far easier to hold than raw pictures.
- Group the shapes into small clusters, for instance curved ones versus pointed ones, then check each cluster afterwards.
- Use the answer row smartly. Two of the choices were never shown at all, so any shape you do not remember seeing is probably one of those decoys.
- If you want another look, the Flash Again button replays the study phase before you answer. Restart gives you a brand new round with a fresh set.
What it exercises
Missing Symbol trains short-term visual memory, attention to detail and the use of mental strategies such as naming and chunking. Because the layout changes between the two views, it also encourages remembering what is present rather than where it sits. Rounds are short, so it is easy to fit in a few quick attempts.
Frequently asked questions
- How long do I get to memorise the shapes?
- The eight shapes are shown for about five seconds before they hide. After that, seven of them reappear in a shuffled order and you must choose the missing one.
- Can I guess more than once?
- No. Your first choice ends the round. If you are right you win, and if not the game tells you which shape was missing so you can learn from it.
- Are there shapes in the choices that I never saw?
- Yes. The answer options include the eight shapes you studied plus two extra shapes that did not appear, so ruling out the extras is part of the challenge.

Grid Tracker
Track the highlighted dots as they scramble and bounce around the container. A classic 'multiple object tracking' focus test — the dots become indistinguishable once they start moving, so the goal is following the right ones purely by motion.
Pattern Memory Blitz
Memorize a flashed tile pattern, then tap the same tiles from memory. Short-term visual memory is the whole game — the tile pattern is only shown briefly before you have to recall it from memory alone.
Card Match
Flip two cards at a time to find all the matching symbol pairs. A classic memory-matching game — remember where each symbol was flipped so you can pair them up in as few tries as possible.
